After the struggling in the first round Sania crashed out of the Wimbledon ladies singles tournament. This year also Sania was unable to break the jinx. Probably she would take another year or two to come out of it.

Meanwhile in another exiting match Sania partnering American Bethanie Mattek beat locals Elena Batacha and Naomi Cavady 6-4, 6-2 in the first round of the Wimbledon ladies doubles tournament on Thursday. Strangely Sania has always performed better in the doubles version of the game.

Since the beginning of the year 2008 Sania is continuously living under the shadow of injuries. Here in the Wimbledon 2008 also, she played her first match of this year’s most prestigious tournament with shoulder problem.

Although, the setting was perfect for her, as her opponent in the first round, Catalina Castano of Colombia was ranked 146th against Sania’s 32nd. Beside that Castano has lost all of her matches in her outings in the previous editions of this tournament. These were the plus points that favored Sania before the match began.

In the opening set, Sania got the perfect break of 3 - 2 from Castano but, she was unable to cash in and the set was ultimately dragged to the tie-breaker. Ultimately Sania won the set.

From the next round Sania was again disturbed by the nagging shoulder injury, but she fought the injury with time-out and refused to surrender before it.

In the final round Sania showed her wits to overpower her shoulder injury and won the set and match with a final score card reading 7-6 (7/3), 3-6, 6-4 in Sania’s favor.

Now Sania will play with Spain’s Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez in the second round. A win in the second round would give
her the third round birth for the first time.

After a long absence from the competitive arena, Sania made her appearance in the DLF Classic Tournament in Birmingham England. But the appearance of the Indian star was quite short on the court. She was defeated within one hour in the first round itself.

It seems that Saniya has not yet recovered from her wrist injury completely. However we should wait and in the meanwhile pray to the almighty for the return of our old fighting Sania soon.
